For the contest I designed both the corporeal form and floaty space demon form of Erya.
In life he was best known as a guerrilla tactics specialist and longbow man. Hiding in the lush forests of his home, he would wait for the absolute best time to strike, sometimes letting enemies pass safely if he wasn’t 100% sure of the outcome. While a great marksman, he also excelled at close combat. Using the spikes on his armor he would shred those in his way. Often times his arrows and spikes contain poison to ensure death. During a low point in his final campaign, his band wasn’t pleased with letting an enemy supply caravan through and planned mutiny. Learning of this, Erya saw no better option and consumed Wrathia’s potion.
As a floaty space man Erya gives terrible advice about dating, health, and life in general. When following his poor advice to failure you can feel nauseous and disorientated. Having Erya signifies a lack of confidence in starting and completing any task in which he is of little to no help. He remains quiet in death as in life, though is not nearly as serious when speaking. He is most stern when the host begins planning a project, questioning them into a defeated state.
Besides absolutely adoring them, I chose the praying mantis for Erya as they remain motionless until prey comes towards them. Only at the right moment do they attack. I usually have difficulty working on something if I feel my skill is inadequate to complete it, which leads me to not do the activity. I gave Erya the longbow as weapon of choice since I shoot bow, except it’s a compound .Traditional bows are a different breed and the longbow is essentially their pinnacle. It also suits his character as using the longbow requires great foresight and meticulous calculation to achieve the set goal. His name comes from a Chinese dictionary which contains one of the first known descriptions of the mantis. His ghost form is elongated and simplified like a mantis. The fabric of his coat became more like petals. The inside of the middle one was inspired by flowers and bug abdomens. He never shows his face in ghost form and hides behind the helmet to increase fear or comedy depending on the situation.
For his side of the pact he wants the opposing forces on his planet eliminated completely.
Also, I gave him faux giant eyebrows since he doesn’t have hair. Can’t have an AD character without amazing brows, right?
Aaaand after a VERY good amount of protelating I finally finished my entry for the Ava’s Demon Contest.
Her name is Verrine, and the name itself is based on a real demon (“Verrine was also prince of Thrones, just below Astaroth. He tempts men with impatience and is opposed by St. Dominic.”). Her design is also very much based in the aspect of time (hourglass figure, the pendulums that are attached to her hair, the hours written in her necklace, and even the whole egypcian vibe which transmits a “timeless” aspect).
(Backstory) She used to live in a wastelast where everyone fought each other for survival, and that made her bitter and overly anxious/worried(GAD). After some events and time, she managed to subordinate other demons to her and suceeding in creating a small colony, that grew up into a small empire.
Once, some rumours spread that some people wished to take her our of her throne, and she retaliated due to her personality, starting a witch hunt of sorts. This caused the almost extinction of her species, with her being the last survivor. In the end, she became a “demon” much like Wrathia and the rest of the gang so she could somehow fix her mistakes by going back in the past - since she couldn’t do it in her current state.
Eeeeey, here’s my entry for Ava’s Demon Design Your Demon contest!
This demoness, while not malicious, has a tendency to see her past and future in rose-colored lens without being aware that neither times are ever perfect (thus the cracks in her otherwise fluffy, elegant form). She always laments that there were/will be better times and is never satisfied with the present enough to be truly happy. She is rather charming and courteous, but that unfortunately only makes it easier to sway her pactmaker into doubting all her choices with insidious criticisms and passive-aggression.
Her name is Melin Mirala, the name adapted from Melinoë (nymph who was known for bringing nightmares) and mirage in Mirala for her delusions. Her element would be wind/air, I suppose.
So yeah, she’s cheerful, ain’t she?
